Acupuncture
Acupuncture is part of the system of healthcare known as Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) which originated in China over 2000 years ago. The underlying principle behind TCM is that Qi or vital energy flows through the body in pathways or channels known as meridians. Pain or illness occurs when this Qi or vital energy is blocked and is unable to flow freely within these meridians, signifying that the body is out of balance.
This treatment is extremely safe. It involves the insertion of fine, sterile, disposable needles into specific acupuncture points to clear energy blockages and encourage the normal flow of Qi through the body. We may also stimulate the acupuncture points using other methods of TCM, including Moxibustion, Cupping, Electro acupuncture and Massage.
is a technique used in TCM in which moxa, a Chinese herb, is ignited and placed above the skin over specific acupuncture points. The purpose of moxibustion is to warm and strengthen the Qi in the meridians.
Cupping Therapy is often used alongside Acupuncture treatment. It involves the placing of cups onto the skin with a vacuum being formed. The cups are retained on the body for between 5 and 15 minutes. Cupping can be used for a variety of conditions and is very beneficial in the treatment of pain.
Electro Acupuncture is a type of Acupuncture whereby a small electric current is passed between pairs of needles to stimulate the flow of Qi in the body. It is particularly useful in the treatment of pain related conditions.
Auricular Acupuncture is a Microsystem of acupuncture, where the whole body can be treated by using a single part of the body. It involves the stimulation of acupuncture points on the external ear. When the points on the ear are stimulated they are believed to regulate the various organs and systems in the body. It can be used alongside body acupuncture or as a standalone treatment and can be used for a wide range of health conditions. Auricular Acupuncture is particularly effective in the treatment of addictions.
